REFERRALS

Referral Pathways – Heads Up Gentlemen

Supporting Men’s Mental Health & Well-Being

At Heads Up Gentlemen, our mission is to ensure that every man has access to the support, guidance, and community connection he needs to navigate life’s challenges. We recognise that reaching out for help can be difficult, which is why our referral process is designed to be simple, confidential, and supportive from the very first step.

Whether you are a professional, a family member, or an individual seeking help for yourself, this page outlines how to refer in to our services and what you can expect once a referral is made.

Who Can Make a Referral?

We accept referrals from:

  • GPs, mental health professionals, and support workers
  • Community organisations, charities, schools, and faith groups
  • Family members, partners, or trusted individuals
  • Self-referrals from men who want to access support directly
  • There is no waiting list, no obligation, and no cost to attend our group sessions.

What We Offer

Heads Up Gentlemen provides a range of community-based mental health and well-being support, including:

  • Weekly Peer-Support Sessions
  • Safe, confidential, and non-judgmental spaces where men can talk openly, share experiences, and gain support from others facing similar challenges.

  • Breathing exercises, grounding techniques, group discussions, and workshops focused on resilience, self-care, emotional regulation, life challenges, and confidence-building.
  • 1-to-1 Support & Check-Ins

How to Refer Someone

Step 1 – Submit a Referral Form

Referrers can complete our secure online referral form (or email us directly). The form asks for basic information such as:

  • Name and contact details
  • Any current concerns or support needs
  • Relevant background information
  • Preferred method of contact
  • We only collect information necessary to ensure safe and appropriate support.

Step 2 – Initial Contact

A member of our team will reach out within 48 hours to introduce ourselves, answer questions, and offer reassurance about what to expect.

Step 3 – Attend a Session

The individual will be invited to join one of our weekly group meetings. They are welcome to bring a support worker, family member, or friend to the first session if needed.

Step 4 – Ongoing Support & Signposting

We continue support for as long as needed, and can also signpost individuals to professional services such as:

  • Counselling
  • GP support
  • Crisis services
  • Addiction support
  • Housing, financial, and family support
  • Community well-being services

Our Approach

Heads Up Gentlemen is built on five core principles:

1. Confidentiality – What is shared stays within the group.

2. Non-judgement – Every man is treated with dignity, respect, and understanding.

3. Peer Support – Men supporting men through shared experiences.

4. Safety – A structured, professionally guided environment.

5. Empowerment – Helping men build confidence, resilience, and positive routines.

Our team includes trained peer-support facilitators, trustees with lived experience, and professionals who understand the unique challenges men face today.
